Tanzanite is a form of zoisite that was first discovered in Tanzania in 1967. Although a more recent discovery, it quickly gained popularity as a colorful and attractive gemstone and is now considered one of the most important colored stones in the gem and jewelry industry. Although not all gem material has resonated with the same importance in both the mineral collecting and jewelry worlds, tanzanite has taken both by storm, establishing itself as fascinating and collectible in both its cut and natural forms. The golden era of tanzanite production was between 2007-2010 and it was during this time that most specimens and gem rough came to market. Since this influx however, findings have been sporadic, and the last few years have not produced any significant finds for the mines. In addition to sparse discoveries, miners of tanzanite have stated that their already limited resources will most likely be depleted within the next thirty years, noting that mining difficulties may cease mining even sooner.
Most tanzanite crystals have muddled coloring with a mix of browns, reds, blues, and purple. The rarest and most sought-after of all tanzanite crystals are the ones that exhibit an evenly saturated, intense, blue or purple coloration. Many, of the tanzanite crystals used in the jewelry industry were once of the muddled variety but have been heat-treated to adjust color consistency and saturation. Heating tanzanite re-aligns its molecular structure and homogenizes them to a lovely, even, purple-blue tone. While the heat-treated gems are considered beautiful and are wholly acceptable after enhancement, ultimately the naturally derived specimens are still considered the pinnacle of desirability by jewelers and mineral collectors alike. The preference for untreated specimens is not just a matter of preference. Heating a tanzanite not only alters its overall color, but it also affects its natural ability to express trichroism. Trichroism is the appearance of different colors, dependent on which axis a crystal is viewed. Natural tanzanite specimens exhibit different colors at its X, C, and Y axes. In the best examples, the X and Y axes show purple or blue, and the C axis exhibits red. Although cutting tanzanite rough into gemstones will mean the reshaping of its natural form and a setting may make it difficult to see its trichroism, discerning a natural tanzanite from an enhanced example is simple. One must only look for the red component (or lack thereof), it will be completely absent from heated pieces. These heated pieces are no longer considered trichroic, but dichroic, a travesty to collectors of high-caliber minerals who treasure natural tanzanite and its incredible characteristics.
When it comes to sourcing Tanzanite, buying straight from the source country isn't what it seems. Standard retail prices in Tanzania are heavily inflated for tourists, and the authentic wholesale market is locked away behind the walls of Merelani. It is a world completely inaccessible to the general public, requiring strict paperwork, lengthy wait times, and direct clearance from mine owners. We hold direct investments in a few of these mines and have great relationships with the mine owners themselves. While 99.9% of dealers are forced to deal with city brokers and middle-men, we go straight to the actual source, allowing us to offer prices that are routinely half or more of what you will see at major gem shows or found online.

We choose not to exhibit at expensive gem shows, and our operation is strictly family-run with zero outside employees. This means our overhead costs are virtually nonexistent. By eliminating the middle-man, wiping out unnecessary administrative expenses, and intentionally keeping our profit margins lower than the industry standard, we ensure that your capital goes entirely into the raw value and beauty of the crystal itself.

PAYMENT PLANS
To help clients acquire higher-value specimens, we offer flexible payment plans for orders exceeding $500. Full payment is required within the calendar year. Typically, we ask that payments be completed within 3-4 months, though extended terms may be available for larger purchases.
Payment plans are not applicable for items that are discounted or on sale.
1. A 20% NON-REFUNDABLE down payment is required to initiate the payment plan and reserve the item(s), due immediately upon receipt of the first invoice. This 20% will be of the total purchase price including shipping and taxes (if applicable). If you'd like to put down more than 20%, we can adjust the remaining payments accordingly.
2. The remaining 80% (or less, if more than 20% was paid initially) will be divided into monthly payments of equal amounts to be completed within the calendar year. The number of payments is subject to discussion with a member of staff who will work closely with clients to custom tailor payment plans. In most cases, we request payment is completed within 3-4 months, with additional time consideration for larger purchases.
3. Clients will receive an invoice to initiate payment - subsequent payments can be made using this same invoice link. Failure to pay invoices with a lapse of 5 days will result in cancellation of the payment plan and forfeiture of the item and 20% non-refundable deposit. Any amount paid in excess of the non-refundable deposit would be refunded via the method of payment used.
4. There is no penalty for early payment. At any time, clients may reach out to a sales team member to pay the remaining balance in full.
5. Upon completion of the payment plan in full, the specimen(s) will be shipped to the client.
6. Items purchased via payment plan are subject to a no-refund policy. Items may be returned at the expense of the buyer for credit equal to the item price (minus taxes and shipping costs) to be applied to any other item in inventory. Unused credit will not be refunded in these cases.
7. For clients who have missed 3 months or more on payment plans we reserve the right to cancel the plan with no refund.
